Manual therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy, performed with the hands as opposed to a device or machine. Manual therapy, practitioners use their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate joints in an attempt to decrease back pain caused by muscle spasm, muscle tension, and joint dysfunction. Manual therapy techniques are carried out with the objective of improving tissue extensibility, increasing range of motion, inducing relaxation, decreasing pain, reducing soft tissue inflammation, optimizing posture and improving function. “Hands-on” techniques and evaluations are performed on practically every patient’s visit to a manual therapy clinic. It is being carried out to reassess progress and determine why the pain or dysfunction is still present.
Manual therapy is also performed by experts to heal female infertility and improves IVF pregnancy rates. Reports have stated that infertility is a common problem affecting 10% to 15% of couples. Estimates suggest that 40% of the problems are attributable to the female, 40% to the male, 20% to both or unknown, and that some 25% of infertile couples have > 1 factor impeding fertility (Source- medscape).
The issues that contribute to infertility can be discovered to scar tissue, fascial restriction, and lymphatic congestion in the pelvic region. However, manual therapy techniques can be performed to release fascial restrictions, to mobilize tight ligaments, and to drain congested lymphatic, all of which can be applied to the reproductive system.
